Belarus: Police detain dozens of protesters

On Monday, Belarusian riot police detained and dispersed hundreds of protesters calling for a new presidential election following the debated Aug. 9 election.

Riot police detained protesters in vans and fired water cans into crowds in an attempt at dispersing protesters.

Almost daily, protests and demonstrations have rocked the capital Misk following the allegedly vote rigged Aug. 9 presidential election, which secured Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko a sixth term.

Opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said on Telegram:

“We will continue to march peacefully and persistently and demand what is ours: new free and transparent elections,”
